Forget Idol, this is the voting event of the season - The Christmas Countdown. Every week they give you the chance to vote for your favorite Christmas songs. Then, on Saturday evening Leo Andrews counts down the 30 biggest songs as voted for by you.
The Fire Apes are set to re-release their Christmas hit, “Last Christmas”. The Charleston foursome recorded the cover of the popular Wham song as part of the “A Very Merry Local X-mas, Volume 1” compilation cd put forth by Charleston radio station 98X WYBB-FM. The single will be released on November 22.
John Seymour, lead singer and songwriter, noted that many Christmas songs have inspired him over the years. "There are some great Christmas tunes that have been recorded from the likes of George Michael and John Lennon," he explained.
“A Very Merry Local X-Mas, Volume 1” features renditions of holiday classics and original pieces by power-pop four-piece The Fire Apes, punk/emo/metal band Handgun Sonata, proggy rock duo The Tens (with a guest vocal performance from former quench singer Kally Knight), Carolina soul/rock act The Soul Mites, hardcore metal group Belligerent, alt-rockers Moonless Moth, rock duo The Diesel Brothers, and punk/pop band Steve Hit Mike. Proceeds from the sale of the cd benefit Charleston area charities including the Lowcountry Food Bank.
The Fire Apes, consisting of John Seymour on lead guitar and vocals, Julian Volpe on bass and vocals, Hugh Knight on keyboards, and Aron Robinson on drums, are currently touring and have added additional New York dates at The Baggot Inn and Arlene’s Grocery.
